The importance of clearing + cleansing your space…

This isn’t a how-to or tutorial on smudging or cleansing. That’s what Pinterest is for. I want to talk about the WHY and the importance in cleansing a space, clearing your energy and how this ancient practice is a common ritual in our home.

If you find yourself living a stressful life, in a go-go-go environment, or even feel that coming home isn’t a sacred place, more of an army-zone, then energy cleansing + smudging may be something for you to practice.

Many of us do not realize that the emotions and feelings we carry settle into our body and system long after that big fight happened or from that grueling drive home in mid day traffic. Our home should be a sacred place. Our home is our sanctuary where we create a life for ourselves, family and even children. If we bring our negative energy back home with us, it’s almost as if we’re adding dead, stagnant energy to a place that was once so beautiful and sacred.

By cleansing ourselves, our homes – heck- even our pets, we’re cleansing away the negativity, and all that is holding us from being our bright, vibrant and true selves.

Our home is definitely a sacred place.

It’s also a place where we have many people coming and going. My partner is a personal trainer and trains his clients at our home gym. I work from home as well as bring people to our in home studio for portraits from time to time. We have friends and family and roommates in and out all the time. It can get a little stressful.

I’ve come to a point where I let my intuitive higher self be the judge on when it’s time to do a cleanse. Maybe I just encountered a person who drained me of all my energy. Maybe I just got into an argument with my partner. Perhaps we’re bringing some new furniture into the house. No matter how big or how “silly” I may judge a situation to be, I listen to that inner voice. Sometimes it’s a loud voice saying, “CLEANSE THIS HOME!!!”. Other times it’s a soft faint voice suggesting I smudge myself to clear all my energy for some creative insight to channel through me. Whatever the case, I listen. And I’ve seen ( and felt! ) great rewards by honoring the energy within me as well as honoring my home as a sacred place.

Cleansing

There’s something really special and really powerful about the element of water.

I have quite an odd relationship with it. There are parts where I feel a slight hesitation when the depth is unknown to me. In my 26 years of age I’ve found myself declining more and more opportunities to just dive in.

But once I’m in… I forget why I kept saying, “No thanks”, over and over. I feel this cleansing sense of divine wholeness rush upon me. There’s absolutely nothing quite like submerging yourself into water.

This next I will studying the practice of deep breath and meditation along with submerging myself into cold water. We’ll see where this takes me..

Morning Glory

One of my absolute favorite meals to start my day is Raw Yogurt with fresh fruit and juice. I seriously feel so refreshed and fully of energy, ready to take on the day!

 I’m All About Sustainable Foods

I’m not a huge morning person- but I find that when I eat foods within the same color palate, and eat with intention, I find myself excited to wake up and start my day. I can’t think of a better color than bright yellow and orange! I also believe eating foods centered around your chakras bring another level activation to your life. Orange is the Sacral Chakra which correlates to Emotions + Creativity.

This morning was a meal of:

  • fresh squeezed Grapefruit juice and ACV
  • Grapefruit pulp left over from juicing
  • Two scoops of greek yogurt
  • Spoonful of Manuka Honey from New Zealand.

Benefits

  • ACV – Apple Cider Vinegar (purchase)  is great for anyone with seasonal allergies, can kill harmful bacteria and un-wanted bugs in your system, and lowers blood sugar levels and can help beat diabetes.
  • Manuka Honey (purchase) has been said to help aid digestion issues, and can help prevent future damage. The anti-microbial properties in Manuka honey can help those who suffer from eczema and acne. It has also been shown to reduce plaque and tooth decay.
  • Grapefruit juice helps clear skin, boosts immunity, aids in killing candida, and is also said to help fight allergies.
  • Greek yogurt is excellent for probiotics, excellent for hair growth and overall health.

The Importance Of Your Sacred Space

For the longest time I never understood why I was not able to be productive or get as much done as I would have liked. I had all the ambition and my engines were revved up, but once it came to following through with a task, I would find excuses or distractions for myself and continue telling myself this story that xyz was the reason I couldn’t get anything done.

As I sat in meditation one morning I just asked for a clear sign. “Why am I not getting my butt in gear? I have so much potential. I have such a gift to offer. Why am I losing that beautiful energy so early on in the game?”

And as always, my Spirit Guides, God, Higher Self, Intuition, Core Source, whatever you want to call it, answered.

It was as clear as day. It was almost as if this voice was louder than thunder. Shaking me to my core…

YOU HAVEN’T CREATED A SACRED SPACE OF YOUR OWN!

That voice was absolutely right. For me, I need my nest. I need my places and spaces to be in order or else I feel like I’m in chaos. I need a relaxing and beautiful environment I get excited to be in while I’m working. I need my zen escape.

I had just moved into my boyfriends house, who was living a very bachelor lifestyle in terms of living environment. I came into his space feeling as if I SHOULD just be polite, sure the clutter bothered me but who was I to be making all these radical changes in his own house? I felt it was my PROBLEM that I couldn’t focus or find refuge in my own space. I never made it my own. 2 months of complaining and scuffing my feet all because I felt an innate anxiety that my space was making my feel claustrophobic.

I immediately changed the front room table which was stacked with old papers and books that haven’t been touched in months. I got rid of what wasn’t needed. I brought my bamboo plant, my orchids, my crystal and himalayan salt candle holders. Heck- I even brought my sage! I created a workspace alter. A huge feel of “Ahhhhhh” rushed upon me. This feels right. This feels creative.

Believe me- it wasn’t my dream work/art studio. It didn’t look like anything that was on my Pinterest or vision boards. But it was mine. And it was a little piece of zen that I manifested and created. It felt peaceful which was the exact opposite I was feeling on the inside. I wanted my space to reflect how I WANTED to feel. And in turn- it gives me the biggest smile on my face every morning. I’m encouraged and excited to sit down at my table/desk and work.

It tall began with me creating a space I wanted and allowing it to be my sacred space.

For me- it all started with claiming an un-used table as my own. Even if I was doing work there. Sometimes we just need a little feng shui to make our emotions turn into devotion.
